Support Housing Alliance for the Bay Area Act

We have a housing crisis with insufficient housing — affordable to each income level — near jobs. And, responding to demand, we have rising housing costs and rising rates of displacement. Plus, predictably, we have an increasing rates of homelessness among seniors and other long-time community members. This situation is unsustainable in every possible way — economically, environmentally and in terms of social equity.

Assembly Bill 1487, the Housing Alliance for the Bay Area Act, is designed to create regional tools and resources to help local jurisdictions address the unintended consequence of our good fortune. Building affordable housing is expensive and local governments need funds and technical assistance to help get it done. AB 1487 is one way to help. The bill has passed the Assembly and is pending in the Senate that is wrapping up its session on Sept. 15.
