MEHC urges San Anselmo to pass Rent Stabilization and Tenant Protections Ordinance

A letter of support for tenant protections and rent stabilization was included in the Week of March 25th Coming Up MEHC newsletter. You can read it here:

Dear Town Council members,

I urge you to vote “Yes” on a strong rent stabilization ordinance and an immediate commitment to implement eviction protection measures.

Tenants are being forced to leave Marin at a rapid rate. With every delay in implementing tenant protections, more of our renting residents involuntarily leave Marin. Each exit means uprooted lives, challenges in finding new schools, doctors and often the need to take on brutal commutes. Involuntary displacements are bad for our communities, our residents and our environment. San Anselmo’s delays in taking action have caused damage. I urge San Anselmo to act now.

San Anselmo has no affordable housing in the pipeline. When current residents are displaced, there is nowhere for them to go. We will continue to lose our workforce if we do not provide protections. We are in a housing crisis now, and we have been discussing these protections for months. Please do the right thing and vote yes now.
