MEHC supports stronger tenant protections in San Rafael for residents in canal opportunity zone

A letter of support for stronger tenant protections was included in the Week of April 15th Coming Up MEHC newsletter. You can read it here:

Dear City Council members,

I am writing to you today in full support of implementing stronger tenant protections for residents in the canal opportunity zone. When residents are displaced from their homes, it is extremely difficult and unlikely to find other housing opportunities in the same neighborhood.

Tenants in the opportunity zone of the canal neighborhood are facing displacement at a higher rate than any other neighborhood in San Rafael.

Please support this anti-displacement urgency ordinance that will remove “Rehabilitation for Health and Safety” as grounds for permanent eviction and require residential property owners to provide relocation assistance to tenants.

We need stronger tenant protections, and this ordinance will be a good first step towards protecting residents in the canal opportunity zone. I urge you to support it.
