MEHC Supports 1 Hamilton Drive

MEHC advocated in support for the 1 Hamilton Drive project. You can read the official letter of support sent to the Mill Valley Mayor and City Councilmembers here:

I am writing to express the Marin Environmental Housing Collaborative’s strong support for the 1 Hamilton development project, and urge that the City Council certify the EIR and approve the resolutions to move the project forward.

The 1 Hamilton site is an excellent location for affordable housing. It has been well vetted and is a great first step in Mill Valley meeting its RHNA for this Housing Element Cycle. The location is walkable to schools and easily accessible for transit. Our board member Paul Jensen, a retired city planner, did a full review of the EIR and found it thorough and compliant.

We would also like to congratulate Mill Valley on having its Housing Element certified by the state. As the City of Mill Valley is likely aware, zoning changes were due January 31st. Until Mill Valley completes these changes, its Housing Element is out of compliance. We are glad to see Mill Valley addressing this issue at this first City Council meeting in February, and urge Mill Valley to complete this critical step in implementing its Housing Element.

We have seen complaints that this is putting too much housing in “East” Mill Valley. The reality is that this is just a first step in this cycle – it is only 5% of the Mill Valley RHNA. To achieve its housing goals, Mill Valley will need many more developments the size of 1 Hamilton.
