MEHC advocates for the approval of 3rd St & Grant Ave project

On June 9th, MEHC sent a letter of support for the 3rd Street & Grant Avenue mixed use project in Novato. You can read the letter below.

Dear City Councilmembers,

The Marin Environmental Housing Collaborative (MEHC) advocates for more affordable housing in Marin, with an environmental and racial justice lens. We are writing regarding the 3rd Street and Grant Mixed Use Project.

MEHC supports projects that improve access to safe and affordable housing for Marin’s workforce and low-income communities. We especially support 100% affordable projects, and infill projects in walkable areas near transit. The 3rd and Grant Street Mixed Use project meets these criteria and is just 0.6 miles from the Smart station. This site was identified as a pipeline project in the Novato Housing Element.

The 3rd and Grant Street Mixed Use Project has been proposed under AB2011. This law requires ministerial approval of projects that meet its requirements. MEHC urges the city council to limit its review solely to whether those requirements have been satisfied.

Marin County is in dire need of affordable housing options, and Novato must provide 898 extremely low to low-income units this housing cycles. This project will help Novato meet these important goals.
