Two times in the week leading up to December 16th, 2024, MEHC sent out Action Alerts to encourage attendance and letters of support for important county meetings. The Action Alert included template emails. You can view all below.

We need your support! On Monday, Dec 16, the Planning Commission will review proposed edits to the Housing Element and Countywide Plan to comply with a court order. We support the staff recommended edits. On Tuesday, Dec 17, the Board of Supervisors will meet to approve funding for the Marinwood Plaza Project. We support approving the full amount requested.  1:00 pm – Monday, December 16: Marin County Planning Commission On Monday, December 16, the Marin County Planning Commission will meet to consider changes to the Housing Element and Countywide Plan in response to a Court decision regarding the precedence clauses proposed for the Countywide plan.MEHC recommends the approval of either Option A or Option C, as outlined in the meeting agendaThese options will likely be approved by HCD and they will satisfy the outstanding Court order requiring the County to “remove the void precedence clauses which direct subordination of the Community Plans to the CWP.” MEHC opposes the appellant’s proposed changes in Option D. The appellant is proposing changes that would reduce accountability for Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing from the 22 Community Plans throughout Marin. Most Marin residents want to see Marin become more racially integrated and affordable. The requests from the appellant are not consistent with the views and wishes of the vast majority of Marin residents. Show your support by using our template email, or showing up in person, meeting info and agenda here.
9:00 am – Tuesday, December 17: Marin Board of Supervisors meeting On Tuesday, December 17, the Marin Board of Supervisors will meet to approve a funding request for the Marinwood Plaza project. The staff is recommending to approve funding of $6.2 million from the affordable housing trust fund. MEHC is advocating that Marin County fund the entire amount requested by the applicant of $7.5 million. Please support this funding using our template email, or showing up in person, meeting info here. The Marinwood Plaza project is one of the strongest projects we have reviewed, and we believe Marin County should do all in its power to move this project forward quickly. MEHC considers affordability, environmental benefits and racial equity. This project includes all of these components.Affordability – this project provides 124 affordable units, including units at the 30% of Area Median Income. This is a very strong project from an affordability standpoint. Environmental benefits – this is an infill project, redeveloping already developed land. Building multi-family housing on an already developed land with existing utilities provides many environmental benefits. We preserve existing habitats through redevelopment. It is an excellent location as it pertains to sea level rise. It is a mixed use project, reducing the need to drive for daily activities, and it’s an excellent location for access to transit. Racial justice – we advocate for more affordable housing options in high resource areas.
